Abstract: This is joint work with Jeremy Russell. In this expository talk, I will recall the new concepts of torsion and cotorsion, as expounded in our earlier work, and introduce their asymptotic counterparts. Our construction is applicable to any ring. Using the (co)completeness of the category of finitely presented functors, I will give an explicit description of the right-derived functors of torsion over Artin algebras. All concepts related to functors will be defined and explained.
