Discoveries and surprises in the non-local Calculus of Variations
Pablo Pedregal (University of Castilla-La Mancha)
Abstract: Peridynamics stands as a main application of non-local variational problems in Continuum Mechanics. Yet from the mathematical point of view many of the important issues behind are formally similar, after suitable non-local reinterpretation of tools, to the classic local framework. Though this is no doubt surprising and reassuring, we will try to push non-locality to find some situations where things are really different. Some of the simplest examples will serve to illustrate how different things may be.
