Abstract: As an appetizer, I will point out the current mismatch between precise SM predictions and experimental measurements in top quark production. I will discuss how future colliders may test the top quark at the highest energies, searching for evidence of new forces in Nature, or substructure of this particle, hitherto considered pointlike and elementary. I will present an example of how machine learning can be of great help in this endeavour.
