Abstract: In the past three decades much research effort has been devoted to systems of nonrelativistic matter coupled to the quantized radiation field and their spectral properties. These systems are often refered to as "nonrelativistic QED" or "Pauli--Fierz Hamiltonians", and for their analysis the renormalization group based on the Feshbach-Schur map proved to be a powerful tool whose isospectrality property yields very precise information.
The talk starts with a review of the model described above and of (some of) the results that have been obtained. The main focus lies, however, on the renormalization group based on the Feshbach--Schur map and the progress that has been made in the past three decades, including the smooth Feshbach--Schur map and the continuous RG flow. Eventually, recent results obtained in collaboration with M. Ballesteros, J. Geisler, and S. Karimi are presented.
