 des much research effort has been devoted to\nsystems of nonrelativistic m
 atter coupled to the quantized radiation\nfield and their spectral propert
 ies. These systems are often refered\nto as "nonrelativistic QED" or "Paul
 i--Fierz Hamiltonians"\, and for\ntheir analysis the renormalization group
  based on the Feshbach-Schur\nmap proved to be a powerful tool whose isosp
 ectrality property\nyields very precise information.\n\nThe talk starts wi
 th a review of the model described above and of\n(some of) the results tha
 t have been obtained. The main focus lies\,\nhowever\, on the renormalizat
 ion group based on the Feshbach--Schur\nmap and the progress that has been
  made in the past three decades\,\nincluding the smooth Feshbach--Schur ma
 p and the continuous RG flow.\nEventually\, recent results obtained in col
 laboration with\nM. Ballesteros\, J. Geisler\, and S. Karimi are presented
