Anyons in Quantum Spin Systems: Superselection Sectors and How to Compute Them

Abstract: The theory of superselection sectors, first developed in algebraic quantum field theory and more recently adapted to quantum spin systems by Naaijkens and Ogata, provides a rigorous description of the anyonic excitations hosted by gapped ground states of (2+1)-dimensional quantum systems. After a brief introduction to the general framework, I will sketch how the sector theory can be computed explicitly in a class of exactly solvable models.
