Artin groups and their isomorphism problem

Giovanni Sartori (Heriot-Watt University)

Thu Nov 19, 13:30-14:30 (7 weeks from now)
Lecture held in Room B3.02 in the Zeeman Building, University of Warwick.

Abstract: Artin groups are a class of groups that includes free groups, free abelian groups, right-angled Artin groups (RAAGs) and braid groups, and is closely related to Coxeter groups, which arise as quotients of Artin groups. In this talk, I will introduce the isomorphism problem for Artin groups, as well as isomorphism invariants that can be read from the defining graph. We will specifically focus on the girth of the defining graph: I will give an algebraic characterisation of it, showing that it is an isomorphism invariant.
