Unique surgery descriptions along knots
Misha Schmalian (University of Oxford)
Abstract: It is known that any three-manifold can be obtained by Dehn surgery along a link. However, such descriptions are often highly non-unique, even when restricted to surgeries along knots. I will describe how to obtain a large class of unique surgery descriptions - one such approach relies heavily on hyperbolic geometry. I will also give a gentle introduction to hyperbolic Dehn surgery.
