DESCRIPTION:Title: <a href="https://researchseminars.org/talk/GaTO/144/">U
nique surgery descriptions along knots</a>\nby Misha Schmalian (University
of Oxford) as part of Geometry and topology online\n\nLecture held in Roo
m B3.02 in the Zeeman Building\, University of Warwick.\n\nAbstract\nIt is
known that any three-manifold can be obtained by Dehn surgery along a lin
 k. However\, such descriptions are often highly non-unique\, even when res
tricted to surgeries along knots. I will describe how to obtain a large cl
ass of unique surgery descriptions - one such approach relies heavily on h
yperbolic geometry. I will also give a gentle introduction to hyperbolic
Dehn surgery.\n\nThis is joint work with Marc Kegel.\n
