Abstract: Babai's conjecture famously asserts that the diameter of any nonabelian finite simple group is bounded by a polylogarithmic function of its order. In this talk, we explore a natural linear analog of this problem. After introducing the concept of the diameter of a Lie algebra with respect to a generating set, we will establish an explicit polylogarithmic diameter bound for all nonabelian finite simple Lie algebras over a prime field.
