Abstract: I will discuss recent work with Ruben Minasian and Yi Zhang on six-dimensional exotic supermultiplets. The main focus of the talk will be on the relationship between these multiplets and exceptional symmetries. In particular I will discuss the non-existence of a standard spacetime "section" for these theories and how the exotic graviton appears in the SL(3,R) Ehlers symmetry term in algebraic decompositions to three dimensions. I will also present an overview of arguments suggesting that the dynamics of these theories may not reduce to those of supergravity in five dimensions and sketch a proposed construction which connects them to three-dimensional supergravity.
