Abstract: I will show how the weak gravity conjecture applied to 4-dimensional supergravity theories can be very powerful in constraining which models can be realistically obtained as low-energy effective theories of string theory. In particular, I will discuss how we can obtain rather general and strong constraints on scale separation between the lower and higher dimensional theory and how most models with positive energy critical points cannot have a consistent string theory origin.
