17-Dec-2025, 11:00-12:00 (3 weeks ago)

Abstract: The Singapore Nuclear Research and Safety Institute (SNRSI) at the National University of Singapore serves as a focal point for developing nuclear science and safety capabilities, including research, training, and policy support. The radiobiology department in SNRSI seeks to contribute to the ongoing research, in both understanding the effects of radiation, especially long term and/or low dose rate exposure, and shaping the protocols for emergency response. Dr Christelle Chua, senior research scientist at SNRSI, will share her lab’s research in elucidating radioadaptive effects and inter-individual radiosensitivity, using their chronic low dose irradiation and organ-on-a-chip setups. Complementing the work into mechanistic insight, the lab also looks at developing their cytogenetic biodosimetry capabilities, in particular with the dicentric chromosome assay. Ongoing work aims to reduce hands-on operator time and dependence on commercial reagents and software.
