Abstract: The notion of the normalised volume of a singularity has been introduced relatively recently, but plays a crucial role in the context of Einstein metrics and $K$-stability. After introducing this invariant my plan is to specialise quickly to the case of toric singularities and show that even in this relatively simple setting interesting phenomena occur.
