An Overview of Agentic Research: I Made an AI Write a Paper—Here’s How It Went!

Mathis Rost (PhD student)

Thu Sep 24, 14:30-15:00 (10 days ago)

Abstract: I hope you are not too fed up with all the AI talks recently. However, this talk will not be about ethics or social impact, nor will it take a position for or against AI. I simply wanted to study what the scientific literature says about writing a (math) paper completely with AI, see what comes out of it, and share my experiences with you.

In the talk, I will introduce the concept of agentic AI and how it can be used for writing papers. I will distinguish three different levels of agentic AI and introduce some common architectures and useful tools that your research agents can use. Finally, I will show how I set up my own research team of AI agents to write a paper.

By the time I give the talk, the paper will hopefully have been reviewed by my supervisor, Ottmar. I will present his feedback alongside my own assessment of the paper and share both my positive and negative experiences with the process.
