An Overview of Agentic Research: I Made an AI Write a Paper—Here’s How
It Went!</a>\nby Mathis Rost (PhD student) as part of Gothenburg PhD semi
nar\n\nLecture held in MVL14.\n\nAbstract\nI hope you are not too fed up w
ith all the AI talks recently. However\, this talk will not be about ethic
s or social impact\, nor will it take a position for or against AI. I simp
ly wanted to study what the scientific literature says about writing a (ma
th) paper completely with AI\, see what comes out of it\, and share my exp
eriences with you.\n\nIn the talk\, I will introduce the concept of agenti
c AI and how it can be used for writing papers. I will distinguish three d
ifferent levels of agentic AI and introduce some common architectures and
useful tools that your research agents can use. Finally\, I will show how
I set up my own research team of AI agents to write a paper.\n\nBy the tim
e I give the talk\, the paper will hopefully have been reviewed by my supe
rvisor\, Ottmar. I will present his feedback alongside my own assessment o
f the paper and share both my positive and negative experiences with the p
 rocess.\n
