Abstract: This minicourse is an introduction to extriangulated categories, defined in collaboration with Hiroyuki Nakaoka. Extriangulated categories generalize both exact categories (in the sense of Quillen) and triangulated categories. The first part of the minicourse will be dedicated to motivating their definition. Our aim is to present many examples, and some applications in representation theory.
