A moduli space in the differential geometry world

David Mumford (Harvard University and Brown University)

25-Jun-2020, 15:00-16:00 (4 years ago)

Abstract: The space of simple closed smooth plane curves is an infinite dimensional manifold and supports a great diversity of Riemannian metrics. They have very diverse curvature properties and even include universal Teichmuller space. I want to talk in particular about a recent example: modeling 2D waves in water (aka gravity waves) that some believe explains so-called rogue waves. After the talk, we plan to have Q&A session at 16:00 GMT. If you have a question for Prof. Mumford, let Ivan Cheltsov know in advance (by e-mail).
