Explicit equations of surfaces of general type

Abstract: I will talk about progress in finding equations of special surfaces of general type, notably fake projective planes. This work was done over the last several years, in a series of joint papers with JongHae Keum, Sai Kee Yeung, Enrico Fatighenti and Anders Buch.
