Abstract: A hypersurface is said to be isoparametric if it and its nearby equidistant hypersurfaces have constant mean curvature. In this talk, we will see examples of these objects in the context of symmetric spaces together with some classification results. After that, we will construct infinitely many new examples of isoparametric hypersurfaces with novel properties in symmetric spaces of non-compact type and rank greater than two.
