Refined invariants of moduli spaces

Abstract: After an introduction to "counting" in algebraic geometry, we shall touch upon the subject of sheaf counting on 3-dimensional complex varieties. In particular, we will discuss the necessity to look for (and compute) more refined invariants than just just bare numbers. This is a general (old) mathematical principle, for instance realised when one decides to study the cohomology ring of a space instead of just focusing on its Euler characteristic.
