Abstract: A torsion-free Tarski monster is a non-abelian group all of whose proper nontrivial subgroups are infinite cyclic. I will present joint work with Remi Coulon and Turbo Ho, where we construct torsion-free Tarski monsters with controlled first-order theory, something which is usually only done for groups with hyperbolic features. No preliminary knowledge of any of these words will be assumed.
