Abstract: Zhu algebras and their generalizations, higher level Zhu algebras, are associative algebras that are important in the study of vertex operator algebras. In this talk, I will define Zhu algebras and higher level Zhu algebras and discuss motivation for their study. This talk will be expository and prior knowledge of vertex operator algebras will not be assumed. (Based on joint work with Barron, Batistelli, Orosz-Hunziker, Pedi\'{c}, and Yamskulna.)
