Abstract: It is known that the Grigorchuk group is conjugacy separable, that is, for each pair of non-conjugate elements, there exists some finite quotient in which the elements are also not conjugate. It is then natural to ask how large of a quotient is necessary to distinguish elements of a given length? The size of such quotients is measured by the conjugacy depth function. In this talk, we present bounds on the conjugacy depth function for the first Grigorchuk group.
