Abstract: One of the classical and most celebrated problems in Hamiltonian dynamics is the existence of periodic orbits on a prescribed energy level. In this talk, we focus on the setting of magnetic dynamics. After providing an introduction to the subject, we present a variational approach to the study of periodic magnetic trajectories and discuss recent results concerning both the existence and the localization of low-energy periodic magnetic orbits. This work is part of a joint project with Leonardo Macarini and Gabriele Benedetti.
