Normal sets in $(\mathbb{ℕ},+)$ and $(\mathbb{N},\times)$
Vitaly Bergelson (Ohio State University)
Abstract: We will start with discussing the general idea of a normal set in a countable cancellative amenable semigroup, which was introduced and developed in the recent paper "A fresh look at the notion of normality" (joint work with Tomas Downarowicz and Michał Misiurewicz). We will move then to discussing and juxtaposing combinatorial and Diophantine properties of normal sets in semigroups $(\mathbb{ℕ},+)$ and $(\mathbb{N},\times)$. We will conclude the lecture with a brief review of some interesting open problems.
