Existence results in elasticity beyond polyconvexity

Abstract: In this talk I discuss some recent results in the calculus of variations that yield existence of minimizers in spaces of Sobolev homeomorphisms for a natural class of elastic energies. The presented results are part of a joint work with Kari Astala, Daniel Faraco, Andre Guerra and Aleksis Koski.
