Intro to Participatory Action Research (PAR): A Primer for Governance Researchers

Brett Stoudt (City University of New York)

Wed Mar 19, 16:00-17:00 (9 months ago)

Abstract: Brett Stoudt, PhD, Associate Professor, Psychology Doctoral Program, City University of New York, Graduate Center & Deputy Director of the Public Science Project

In this presentation, Dr. Stoudt will introduce the principles and possibilities of participatory action research (PAR) through several NYC case studies. He will use his work with communities on policing and the justice system over the last decade to illustrate: · PAR’s theoretical and ethical foundations; · Critical questions to consider throughout the PAR process; · Using qualitative and quantitative approaches within a PAR framework; · Linking PAR to policy, organizing, education and litigation; · Opportunities to think about “art” as method and action.
