Per aspera ad astra: Impact of high precision standard model predictions for new physics searches

Abstract: We review recent progress in increasing the precision of SM flavour observables, like heavy hadron lifetimes or B-mixing. The latter observable turns out to be a severe constraint on BSM models that try to explain the recently observed anomalies in the flavour sector.
