Abstract: A Hamiltonian is in a SPT phase with a given symmetry if it cannot be smoothly deformed into a trivial Hamiltonian without a phase transition, if the deformation preserves the symmetry, while it can be smoothly deformed into a trivial Hamiltonian without a phase transition, if the symmetry is broken during the deformation. We consider this problem for one- and two-dimensional quantum spin systems with on-site finite group symmetries.
