Abstract: Date: July 1, 2026 (Wednesday) at 4PM (UK time)
Speakers: Prof. Oleg Pikhurko, University of Warwick, UK
Topic: Squaring the Circle
About the Talk: Prof. Oleg Pikhurko is a leading mathematician whose work has made major contributions to extremal combinatorics, graph theory, random structures, and related areas of mathematics. In this talk, he will discuss the famous problem of squaring the circle: whether a disk can be cut into finitely many pieces and rearranged to form a square of the same area. The talk will outline the history of this classical problem, from its ancient geometric origins to recent breakthroughs.
