On Gamma-Convergence of the TFDW model

Abstract: During my talk I will explain a rigorous connection between the Thomas-Fermi-Dirac-von Weizsäcker (TFDW) model, introduced in the study of ionization of atoms and molecules, and the Liquid Drop model with external potential, proposed by Gamow in the context of nuclear structure, via Gamma-convergence. These models correspond to energy-driven nonlocal pattern forming systems with opposing interactions. Nonlocalities are present via Coulombian type interactions. I will also discuss compactness of sequences with bounded energy.
