Abstract: The Quot schemes of surfaces parametrizing quotients of dimension at most 1 of the trivial sheaf carry 2-term perfect obstruction theories. Several generating series of associated virtual invariants are conjectured to be given by rational functions. We show this is the case for several geometries including all smooth projective surfaces with p_g>0.
