Monodromy results in characteristic $p$

Abstract: A local monodromy result of Igusa from late 1960's, describes the Galois representation associated to the p-power torsion points of the universal elliptic curve near a supersingular point of the modular curve. In this talk, I'll describe my work on such local results for abelian varieties and beyond.
