Abstract: The aim of this talk is to present a comprehensive variational view of viscoelastodynamics. First we will consider the modelling of the problem from an energetical perspective. Then we will see how existence of solutions to static, quasistatic and dynamic problems can all be derived by consecutive variational methods following that energetical structure. Finally we study the convergence to the linearization employing the variational concept of $\Gamma$-convergence. This is based on joint work with B.Benešová and M.Kružík.
