Abstract: Machining operations involve complex interactions between the cutting process and the structural dynamics of the machine-tool-workpiece system. The presentation provides an overview of mathematical models describing these interactions, focusing on dynamics, vibrations, and surface formation. This overview presentation begins with a general introduction to the machining workflow from CAD-CAM to CNC, linking it to structural behavior and surface accuracy. This is followed by an analysis of representative machining processes—turning, milling, and grinding, showing different physical effects and their corresponding mathematical formulations. Finally, an overview of simulation software development for milling will be presented, demonstrating its role in machining process optimization.
