Sporadic points on modular curves

Abstract: I'll survey various results about "sporadic" (or "unexpected") points on modular curves, and then focus on recent joint work with Derickx, Etropolski, van Hoeij, and Morrow about torsion on elliptic curves over cubic number fields.
