Abstract: A classic result in the study of Kähler metrics with special curvature properties is that the cscK equation can be realized as the moment map equation for an infinite-dimensional Kähler reduction. We present a natural hyperkähler extension of this moment map picture, obtaining a new system of equations reminiscent of Hitchin's equations for Higgs bundles. We will discuss some recent existence results, particularly obstructions to solutions to the problem.
