Statistical techniques for model selection and physics interpretation in particle physics

Abstract: Model selection is one of the essential steps in the analysis of experimental data to extract the relevant physics. In the last years new statistical techniques have started to be used in such analyses to select the simplest possible model and interpret results. I will discuss some of them with some practical examples.
