Abstract: It’s a long standing problem in Hodge theory to complete the image of a period map. The latter arise in the study of algebraic moduli, and are proper holomorphic maps into locally homogeneous spaces that are subject to a differential constraint. I’ll give a survey of the problem and then describe recent progress, with an emphasis on the role of complex geometry and Lie theory. Joint with Mark Green and Phillip Griffiths.
