Tree-Based Methods

Marta Marszewska (Dioscuri Centre in Topological Data Analysis)

Mon Feb 9, 11:30-13:30 (4 weeks from now)
Lecture held in Room 1 at the IMPAS, Room 1.14 at the Institute of Informatics (University of Gdańsk).

Abstract: This talk provides an accessible overview of tree-based methods for regression and classification. We will explore the fundamental concepts behind decision trees, including recursive partitioning, tree construction, and pruning for improved generalization. Building on these foundations, we will introduce ensemble methods - bagging, random forests, and boosting - which substantially enhance predictive accuracy by aggregating many weak learners.
