DESCRIPTION:Title: <a href="https://researchseminars.org/talk/ZAG/194/">Fi
brations and degenerations of Calabi-Yau varieties via tropical geometry</
a>\nby Lawrence Jack Barrott (University of Leiden) as part of ZAG (Zoom A
lgebraic Geometry) seminar\n\n\nAbstract\nOne expectation from the Doran-H
arder-Thompson is that certain degenerations of Calabi-Yau's should corres
pond under mirror symmetry to fibrations by lower dimensional Calabi-Yau's
. I will make this expectation precise\, and explain how to prove it under
certain assumptions using the Gross-Siebert program. The proof uses an ol
d result of Deligne-Illusie together with modern deformation theory from C
 han-Leung-Ma and Felten-Filip-Ruddat.\n
