 l report on joint work with David Kazhdan\, in which we determine the unra
 mified Eisenstein spectrum for\nall split reductive groups over a global f
 ield. Our methods are rooted in topology and algebraic geometry.\nSpecific
 ally\, we relate the spectral decomposition to a decomposition of $T^*(B \
 \backslash G / B)$ in in a certain cobordism group\, where $G$ is the Lang
 lands dual group. This works equally well for fields of positive and zero 
 characteristic.\n
