 phic form on $\\mathrm{GL}_2$\nfor every irreducible rank-$2$ local system
  on a curve over a finite\nfield\, satisfying the Hecke eigenproperty. His
  construction is purely\ngeometric and launched what is today known as the
  geometric Langlands\nprogram. In this talk\, I will review the early hist
 ory of the\ngeometric Langlands program and explain Drinfeld's original ar
 gument.\n
