Abstract: The kinetic wave equation (KWE) is to nonlinear waves what the Boltzmann equation is to classical particles. The KWE is also very closely related to quantum versions of the Boltzmann equation. Finally, the KWE provides an entrypoint into turbulent phenomena, since it is aimed at describing weakly turbulent flows. For all these reasons, the KWE is an interesting object, and the question of its validity a fundamental one. I will review recent progress on this question.
