l physics seminar\n\n\nAbstract\nI present ideas about how to extend the s
tandard formalism of Quantum\nMechanics in such a way that the theory actu
ally makes sense. My\ntentative extension is called\n\n "ET
H-Approach to Quantum Mechanics"\n\n(for "Events\, Trees and Histories").\
n\nThis approach supplies the last of four pillars QM can be constructed u
pon\,\nwhich are:

\n(i) Physical quantities characteristic of a phys
ical system are represented\n by self-adjoint operators\;

\n(ii) t
he time evolution of these operators is given by the Heisenberg equation\;

\n(iii) meaningful notions of states and of "potential" and "actual ev
ents" have\n to be introduced\; and

\n(iv) a general law for the t
ime evolution of states (superseding Schroedinger\n evolution\, which
is inadequate) must be formulated.\n\nBesides briefly sketching the ETH-Ap
proach in the setting of non-relativistic\nQM\, I present a family of very
simple models of a very heavy atom coupled to\nthe radiation field in a l
imit where the speed of light tends to infinity\,\nAn analysis of these mo
dels\, which illustrate the ETH Approach\, is the main\nsubject of the tal
k.\n
