The polynomials encode the m ultiplicity of irreducible\nrepresentations in standard ones. In both\, th e real and p-adic setting\, there are relevant\ngeometric parameters that index both irreducible and standard modules. I will briefly\nreview the ge ometric setting. Next\, I will discuss earlier contributions by Zelevinski and\nby Ciubotaru-Trapa. In presenting new results\, I will emphasize exa mples.
