DESCRIPTION:Title: <a href="https://researchseminars.org/talk/jomarec/44/"
 >Progress towards the BKL Proposal</a>\nby Warren Li (Stanford University)
as part of JoMaReC - Joint Online Mathematical Relativity Colloquium\n\n\
 nAbstract\nAround 50 years ago\, physicists Belinski\, Khalatnikov and Lif
shitz provided heuristics describing the behaviour of near-singularity sol
utions to the Einstein equations as spacelike\, local and oscillatory. Vag
uely speaking\, they suggest that dynamics corresponding to different spat
ial points on the singularity decouple and resemble a chaotic cascade of s
o-called “Kasner epochs”. In this talk\, we present a mathematical for
mulation of this “BKL Conjecture” and progress towards the conjecture
in the case of Gowdy symmetric spacetimes.\n
