DESCRIPTION:Title: <a href="https://researchseminars.org/talk/gbgstats/117
/">The Multinomial Allocation Model and the Size of a Randomly Chosen Box<
/a>\nby Serik Sagitov (Chalmers University of Technology and University of
Gothenburg) as part of Gothenburg statistics seminar\n\nLecture held in M
VL14.\n\nAbstract\nThe multinomial allocation model provides a natural fra
mework for a generalized birthday problem\, in which n balls are distribut
ed among N boxes with non-uniform allocation probabilities. As a classical
object in probability theory\, it also appears in a wide range of applica
 tions.\n\nIn this talk\, I revisit an asymptotic result due to Kolchin\, S
evastyanov\, and Chistyakov from the 1970s and reformulate it in terms of
the size of a randomly selected box. This viewpoint leads to a strengthene
d version of the result\, where explicit two-sided bounds on the remainder
  terms can be obtained.\n
