DESCRIPTION:Title: <a href="https://researchseminars.org/talk/gbgphd/65/">
How to ruin the art experience by modeling one's eye-movements</a>\nby Nil
s Grimbeck (Chalmers University of Technology\, University of Gothenburg)
as part of Gothenburg PhD seminar\n\nLecture held in MVL14.\n\nAbstract\nF
or over a hundred years\, researchers have tracked where people look when
they view art\, hoping to learn something about how we perceive\, judge\,
and think about what we see. This talk takes that idea and\, in the name o
f science\, sucks a little bit of the mystery out of it: we present a stat
istical model that predicts your eye movements as you look at a painting f
or the first time.\n\nWe trained and tested this model on real eye-trackin
g data: twenty people looking at six very different paintings. The result
is a model that can reasonably imitate how a person's gaze wanders across
a piece of art in the first crucial 30 seconds\, which is either a neat co
ntribution to the science of visual attention\, or a way to slightly ruin
art forever by reducing it to a stochastic process and making you uncomfor
tably conscious of how you eyes move. You be the judge.\n
